Close to Home

I so enjoyed a recent speaker from South Africa. He and his family serve in an area of the world that I have been privileged to visit many times. My heart was touched as I heard the appeal and saw the slides. What was even more moving was to hear the local sponsor of this speaker. With passion and excitement he invited us to join in the ministry, some 8,000 miles away, and give our financial gifts toward the wonderful work God is doing.

As I heard the speaker describe a scene of a particular African outdoor bathroom, my thoughts turned toward my friends who serve as missionaries in the state of Kentucky. I thought to myself "friend, I would like for you to visit my friends who serve the Lord faithfully in Kentucky, not too far from home." Then as I continued to think about this speaker, who lives in northeastern North Carolina, I began to think about the ministry God has called us to do here where we live. My thoughts moved about an hour north of where this dear brother lives, to a particular place where the bathroom facilities are just as poor as we have seen in Africa.

One does not have to travel far from home to see the need around us. Look next door, down the street, or up the road. People are in need of physical and spiritual help.

If you would like to help us with ministry to those in poverty, I would invite you to join us at Cooperative Baptist Fellowship with our new ministry. This link can help you know about what we are doing, and also give you opportunity to give financially to work "close to home." www.thefellowship.info/anderson Your pledge, even if it is as little as $5.00 per month, can help us begin a ministry to those who are hurting here in northeastern NC. I would love to talk to you about our work and also speak at your church. Get in touch: landerson@thefellowship.info
